Nilsen continue to be the preferred electrical contractor for hospitals in Western Australia. Having completed Armadale Hospital, Rockingham Hospital, Joondalup Hospital, Hollywood Hospital, St of John of God Murdoch Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Cancer Centre and Pathwest, Fiona Stanley Hospital and having recently been awarded Midland Hospital, Nilsen were awarded the298 bed, New Children’s Hospital (renamed Perth Children’s Hospital) by John Holland in April 2013.

The award was preceded by a period of “Design Assist” during which Nilsen worked hand in hand with John Holland and the consultants Disney Norman Young to provide cost estimates and proposals to reduce costs for the electrical works. Nilsen commenced on site in July 2014. It has a fast track schedule with completion planned for June 2015.

The HV systems of the new hospital will interface with the new Central Energy Plant (CEP). CEP was completed by Nilsen under a separate contract with Brookfield Multiplex.

The façade of the building is a unique style and will incorporate LED lighting to enhance the “fizz” or “disk” features on the building.

The project is designed using 3D modelling or BIM (to LOD 500). This requires substantial coordination between all of the different trades, architects, structural and civil teams involved on the project.

Nilsen are contracted to supply and install:

  • HV Systems.
  • LV Distribution Systems.
  • Power Monitoring and Control System.
  • Generators (Emergency Power).
  • Solar Panels.
  • Feature Lighting.
  • General Light and Power.
  • Dali Lighting Control.
  • Medi Duct.

During the power up phase Nilsen will tasked with synchronising the HV systems between the new CEP and new hospital. The most critical aspect of the project will be to achieve the construction completion date.
