Nilsen is involved in a large number of infrastructure projects including underground PILC and XLPE cabling for high and medium voltage, substation construction including SF6 protective gear, transformer and tap-changer installations, highway lighting, port installations, light rail electrification and other transport installations. Nilsen provides infrastructure project expertise in metropolitan and regional as well in remote locations.

Nilsen completed a considerable portion of works at Brisbane’s Airport Link Tunnel Network.

The project, which opened in August 2012, was Australia’s largest infrastructure project to date, creating roughly 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. Thiess John Holland managed the massive project which comprised of two tunnels, a new airport connection and over 500 CCTV cameras.

Nilsen installed all the APL Tolling Gantry Cabling and Backbone to the Technical Shelter locations. Other features of the project also included:

  • Substations 3 & 4 complete HV & LV Fit-out
  • Cable Tray installation
  • 6 x Tolling Gantries Installation
  • Fibre Optic Cabling and Testing
  • Cross Passage Fit-outs
  • 2 x Tech Shelter Fit-outs
  • General Labour Hire - Southern, Central, Underground and Surface areas

This unique project presented the Nilsen team with on-site challenges relating to delivery and logistics, communication and environmental conditions. Our team overcame every obstacle, delivering the project successfully and safely on time and budget.

Theiss John Holland have won many awards for the project, including the ‘2012 Construction Excellence Award’ from the Australian National Construction Major Project Review.
