The CDU Theatre building is located within the Charles Darwin University Casuarina campus, Ellengowan Dr, Casuarina NT 0810. Nilsen undertook a full refurbishment of the electrical, fire, security and communications services.

The programme from the outset was a challenge which Nilsen embraced with the project team headed by As Build. Some of the project innovations consisted of an automated lighting control system. The Dynalite system included LED touch pads, override switches and sensors. Together the Dynalite system and LED lighting demonstrated to be a low cost energy saving solution for the theatre.

Scope of Works

• Nilsen NT was engaged to Supply, install, test commission the following services.
• Distribution boards, power and lighting services.
• Communication and MATV system.
• Building Wireless access points (integrated over CDU campus network).

Significance

• In conjunction with CDU performing arts, Nilsen were also involved heavily with the stage layout. Among others this included blue lights, curtain motors, audio and visual effects. Together the Dynalite system and LED lighting demonstrated to be a low cost energy saving solution for the theatre.
• Nilsen were also a part of the retractable seating arrangement situated inside the theatre itself. With the aid of sensors and limit switches, 250 seats are able to extend and retract on a railing system which eliminated storage requirements and maximised floor plan.

Despite the obstructions, Nilsen were able to deliver a high quality product on time and budget with no serious injuries sustained.
